Cohort plc, an independent technology group, has completed the acquisition of EM Solutions, an Australian company specialising in satellite communication terminals. This acquisition expands Cohort's naval defence portfolio and strengthens its presence in Australasia.
EM Solutions is known for its innovative microwave and satellite products, which provide high-speed telecommunications worldwide. The company focuses on the design, assembly, testing, and support of satellite on-the-move terminals for defence and government sectors. It also offers advanced broadband radio transceivers, RF subsystems such as low-noise receivers, and solid-state high-power transmitters, serving both defence and commercial clients.
This acquisition allows Cohort to diversify into the growing satellite communications market, complementing its existing naval capabilities. EM Solutions will become the seventh independent business within the Cohort Group, reporting to its Communications and Intelligence Division.
Cohort’s Chief Executive, Andy Thomis, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, We are delighted to welcome EM Solutions to the Cohort group. Thomis highlighted the strategic importance of Australia, particularly given the increasing security challenges in Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific region. “The increasing security challenges in Southeast Asia and Indo Pacific mean that Australia is an important strategic region. This combined with the increasing trend toward satellite communications means there are clear growth opportunities for both EM Solutions and the broader Cohort Group. We look forward to serving EM Solutions’ customers, current and future, in the years to come.”
John Logan, Joint Managing Director of EM Solutions, also commented on the acquisition, noting, “EM Solutions are equally delighted to join the Cohort Group. This is an opportunity for us to collaborate with other businesses within the Group to enhance our joint research and development offerings and maximise opportunities for providing our advanced satellite communications technology to more customers all over the world.”
