The first Airbus Defence C-295 military transport has been inducted into the IAF.
The first IAF squadron to have the distinction of being equipped with the new aircraft, is 11 Squadron (The Rhinos), based at Vadodara in Gujarat.
India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the induction of the C295 would bolster the medium lift tactical capability of the IAF.
While the first 16 of the 56 contracted aircraft will be delivered to the IAF in a ‘fly-away’ condition, the remaining 40 would be manufactured in India by Tata Advanced Systems Limited at their facility in Vadodara.
