Barzan Holdings which is owned by Qatar’s Ministry of Defence made an impressive start at the just concluded DIMDEX exhibition in Doha with several important agreements, following its public launch on the first day of the show.

A new Joint Venture (JV) called ‘Bindig’ (Rifle in Qatari) has been inked with Italian firm Beretta for manufacture of rifles and pistols in Qatar. The JV is Beretta’s first in the Middle East and weapons produced by the new JV will be supplied to Qatar’s armed and security forces.

Another JV announced at the show is Rheinmetall Barzan Advanced Technologies (RBAT), which is a partnership with German defence firm Rheinmetall AG for the setting up of a facility for the manufacture of ammunition in Qatar.

Rheinmetall Barzan will also work on research in unmanned ground vehicles and high energy lasers.

Turkey has a strong presence at the show and this has also resulted in a few JV agreements with Turkish companies for R&D programmes, weapons platforms, cyber and crypto technology.
