Garuda Indonesia Conducts IATA Travel Pass Trials

Yulian Ardiansyah - : Aug 31, 2021 - : 2:03 am

Indonesian flag carrier airline Garuda Indonesia is currently testing the IATA Travel Pass implementation on one of its international routes.

The trial’s first phase commenced on Aug. 30 and will conclude on Sept. 13 on the GA874/GA875 flight s between Soekarno Hatta airport, Greater Jakarta to Haneda airport, Greater Tokyo area.

“We believe this IATA Travel Pass trial will be an accelerator for our efforts to digitally integrate the management of travel documents, including health certificates, into our existing application, namely FlyGaruda,” said Irfan Setiaputra, Garuda Indonesia President Director. “This IATA Travel Pass trial is our effort to provide added value for our passengers by providing convenience, security, and comfort in traveling between countries through more seamless services, especially during this period of adaptation to new habits.”

Garuda Indonesia is the first Indonesian airline to implement the IATA Travel Pass that enables passengers to track and manage their health documents and credentials digitally. More Indonesian airlines are expected to follow suit soon.

“We look forward to working with Garuda Indonesia to carry out the IATA Travel Pass trial and show that this digital health application can make it easier for passengers to manage travel health credential documents safely, comfortably, and efficiently. This is an important step that allows the public to travel internationally during the pandemic. It also gives confidence to the government that tourists have met all the COVID-19 document requirements as required by local authorities,” said Nick Careen, IATA Senior Vice President for Operations, Safety, and Security.

IATA Travel Pass is a system developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in the form of a smartphone application (for Android and iOS). It consists of four main modules: registry of health requirements, registry of testing/vaccination centers, lab module, and travel pass module. The application helps passengers store and manage their verified certification of COVID-19 vaccination as well as provide COVID-19 and other health-related information about their destination.
