India’s state-owned airframer, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has entered into an MoU to establish an office in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

In a release, the airframer stated that the new office in Malaysia will help in tapping the new business opportunities for Fighter Lead-in Trainer (FLIT) LCA and other requirements of Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) like Su-30 MKM and Hawk upgrades.

Hindustan Aeronautics’ office in Kuala Lumpur will take up market promotion of HAL’s range of products and services not only in Malaysia but in the entire South East Asia.

“The office will also contribute in increasing serviceability of existing platforms being operated by RMAF and for neighbouring Air Forces in the region,” a company official tells GBP.

HAL is pitching its LCA ‘Tejas’ fighter jet to meet a RMAF requirement for a light fighter and trainer and submitted its proposal to the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), Malaysia in October.

HAL has offered to supply 18 Tejas fighter aircraft to the RMAF and is expecting the announcement of the winner for the tender to to be declared soon by Malaysian authorities.

“LCA Tejas stands a fair chance of selection in the bid as it meets all the parameters sought by RMAF,” the company said.

HAL has also offered to extend the required support to the RMAF for its Su-30 MKM fleet which is facing low serviceability issues due to ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis.

HAL is one of the largest producers of the Su-30 aircraft, which it built to the Su-30 MKI standard under license from Sukhoi.

HAL can support RMAF for upgrading their Hawk fleet as well, the official added.
