Hyundai Rotem and PGZ Group Ink Agreement on MBT, APCs

Poland defence firm Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) and South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem company signed a memorandum at the ongoing show to jointly develop tanks and armored personnel carriers.

Announcing the signing of the memorandum, Poland’s Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak tweeted that the deal is an important step in the development of Poland’s armed forces and defence industry.

Błaszczak had said, earlier this month, that Poland was looking to buy modern tanks from South Korea. “We want Korean tanks to be produced in Poland, and we want technology to be transferred,” he added.

Hyundai Rotem is offering its K2PL Main Battle Tank (MBT) to Poland as part of the Polish Wilk new generation MBT procurement program. As part of the proposal, a brand-new MBT would be developed, in collaboration with the PGZ group. Poland is also reportedly interested in acquiring existing K2 Main Battle Tanks.

The K2 MBT features a Korean 120 mm 55 Cal. main gun, a hydropneumatic in-arm suspension system that enhances the tank’s mobility. Hyundai Rotem is promoting the MBT in Egypt and Norway as well.

The South Korean company is also offering industrial cooperation for the design and production of wheeled armored vehicles such as the K606 (6×6) and K808 (8×8).
