Indonesian Navy Puts Tesco Combat Boat D-18 On Trial

Yulian Ardiansyah - : Nov 21, 2022 - : 7:52 pm

A Combat Boat D-18 made by PT Tesco Indomaritim (Tesco), an Indonesian privately owned shipyard, was put under trial by the Indonesian Navy (TNI Angkatan Laut / TNI-AL) at Jakarta bay on Friday (Nov. 18). The trial was being done to see the full capabilities of the boat meant to fill TNI-AL’s needs for a type of small, fast and agile vessel for patrol, pursuit and infiltration purposes.

Tesco’s Combat Boat D-18 has a length of 18 meters, 4.5 meters beam, and a 0.8-meter draft. It has a displacement of 22 tonnes with a maximum fuel capacity of 3.600 liters. Powered by two 1,150 BHP diesel engines driving two water jets, the boat can reach a maximum speed of 43 knots.

It can be armed with either a manually operated 12.7 mm M2 heavy machine gun or a 40 mm MK19 automatic grenade launcher, or a US-made Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS) or Norway’s Kongsberg mounting one of those weapons. Operated by four crews, the boat can also carry up to 22 fully armed troops that can disembark quickly through the boat’s bow-mounted door.

The Indonesian Navy has yet to release an official statement regarding how many of Tesco’s Combat Boat D-18 the service intended to acquire.
