Our Bureau - : May 2, 2024 - : 7:25 pm

Hensoldt UK has been chosen by Navantia UK to provide key systems for the UK Royal Fleet Auxiliary’s (RFA) three new Fleet Solid Support (FSS) ships, aiding replenishment operations for the Royal Navy’s Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.

The company will supply its Quadome Naval 3D Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Air and Surface Surveillance Radar, Air Traffic Management systems, and Kelvin Hughes Integrated Navigation Bridge Systems (INBS).

The Quadome radar offers advanced capabilities like small target detection and volume tracking, along with compatibility with existing UK Royal Navy systems. Additionally, Hensoldt will deliver Kelvin Hughes INBS, including SharpEye naval navigation radars and multifunction displays, which are already in use on RFA Tide Class tankers.

These contracts will create 50 new jobs and safeguard 150 existing ones in the UK, with over £1 million invested in establishing a new support hub for Quadome radars at Hensoldt’s Enfield factory.

“These contracts support our plans for significant new investment in our UK manufacturing and support facility. We are set to establish a new Quadome radar support and test facility at our Enfield factory, utilising UK supply chain support. This will provide local maintenance, repair and support services to Navantia and the UK RFA, while also creating new employment opportunities in the area,” said Peter Dillon, Managing Director of Hensoldt UK.

“This signals Hensoldt’s entry into the UK’s naval Air Surveillance market and re-affirms our position as an Integrated Bridge Systems provider to the fleet,” he added.

“Navantia UK and Team Resolute are proud to partner with Hensoldt UK in order to equip the FSS vessels with top class surveillance and navigation systems. This contract is an important step forward in the progression of the programme, as well as a testament to our commitment to promote highly skilled jobs and prosperity across the UK”, said Sir Alan Massey KCB CBE, non Executive Chairman, Navantia UK.
