Indra H175 Simulator Trains Hong Kong GFS Pilots

Hong Kong’s Government Flying Service (GFS) has integrated the H175 helicopter flight simulator developed by Indra into their training regimen. This move aims to bolster the expertise of pilots responsible for executing critical missions such as search and rescue operations at sea, emergency response, and firefighting.

Seeking a training system that accurately mirrors the cockpit environment of their H175 helicopters, the service mandated specific enhancements including external cameras, thermal cameras, and mission systems not standard in the base model. Furthermore, the simulator had to incorporate a database faithfully reproducing the vast operational areas of GFS, necessitating precise 3D terrain modelling.

After a thorough evaluation process and rigorous international tender, GFS selected Indra due to their ability to meet Level D certification standards. Indra supported the service throughout the certification process with both the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Agency (CAD), ensuring compliance.

“From the outset we were impressed by the dedication and focus of the Indra team, who worked with us for two years on the development of this simulator, meeting the objectives and exceeding our expectations,” said Captain Trevor Marshall, Head of Pilot Training and Standards at GFS.

“We are very pleased to have selected Indra and feel that we have established an excellent partner relationship with their entire team.”

“The simulator allows pilots to fly in zero visibility conditions, land on ships, provide medical emergency services, carry out firefighting, as well as surveillance and rescue tasks in mountainous areas and at sea. Pilots can train to fly in complex weather conditions and react to any unexpected situations,” said Rafael Junco, Head of Indra Simulation.

Indra’s simulation systems cover a wide range of military and civil aircraft, including helicopters like NH90, Tiger, and Chinook, as well as passenger aircraft such as A320 and Boeing 737.
