Growing defence ties between Jordan and Kuwait are set to receive a further fillip following a meeting between Jordan Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh with Kuwaiti Minister of Defence Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al Sabah.
During the meeting, which took place on the second day of the ongoing event, the two leaders discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation between the Jordanian and Kuwaiti armed forces. The efforts would include exchanging expertise and joint training.
According to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the meeting was also attended by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Jordan Abdulaziz Dihani. At the meeting, the Prime Minister spoke about the “deep-rooted” natures of Jordanian-Kuwaiti relations under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah and Kuwait Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. He also referred to the “distinguished” relations between the two countries and their people and was vocal in his praise of Kuwait’s stance with regard to various Arab, regional, and international issues.
The Kuwaiti defence minister, who is leading his country’s delegation at the ongoing edition, was impressed by the plethora of opportunities at the event for participants to learn about modern weapons technology and to see up close modern military and defence equipment. In addition to lauding Jordan’s efforts in organizing SOFEX 2022, he also spoke about the “distinguished” relations between the two countries as well as the mutual commitment to expanding cooperation in all fields.
The two countries have shared a growing and deep-rooted commitment to peace in the region. In May this year, the Kuwaiti Army, represented by the Amiri Guards, took part in the joint “Shields of Al-Nashama 2” military exercise for security and protection held in Jordan. The exercises included shooting from different types of weapons, protection operations, storming and evacuating buildings, and using motorcades’ vehicles and helicopters to evacuate VIPs in danger or under attack.
