Airbus has completed the maiden flight of the first BelugaXL oversize air transporters over south-western France.
>> Farnborough International Airshow 2018
A total of five BelugaXLs are slated to enter into service later in 2019.
The new aircraft will gradually replace the BelugaST transporters.
The new BelugaXL is based on the A330-200 Freighter, with a large re-use of existing components and equipment.
The programme was launched in November 2014 to address the transport and ramp-up capacity requirements for Airbus beyond 2019.
