The Malaysian Defense Ministry (MINDEF) has announced its intention to procure Instalaza C90 Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) for the Malaysian Army. Released on Tuesday (Jan. 30), the Request For Bids (RFB) specifies the need for 780 units of the weapon to be supplied and delivered to various units within the Malaysian Army. The bidding process is open until February 20th.

While some Malaysian elite forces units are already equipped with Instalaza C90 RPGs, this procurement signifies the weapon’s introduction to the regular combat units of the Malaysian Army.

According to the Malaysian Defense website, the RFB is open to potential suppliers for the supply and delivery of the weapon and may consist of three variants: anti-armor, anti-armor/antipersonnel fragmentation, and bunker buster.

The C90 RPG, produced by Instalaza, a Spanish defense company, is a 90 mm-caliber rocket-propelled grenade launcher. Each launcher weighs approximately 5 kg (single-use) or 3.9 kg without ammunition in the reusable version, with a length of 940 mm.

With a muzzle velocity of 160 m/sec, an effective range of 350 m, and a maximum firing range of 700 m, the anti-armor variant of the weapon boasts a penetration capability of around 500 mm of Rolled Homogenous Armor (RHA).

Widely exported, the Instalaza C90 RPG has been adopted by armies from Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia within the Southeast Asia region, as well as armies from 11 other countries outside Spain.
