French shipbuilder Naval Group has announced the successful conclusion of contractual discussions on the five-year In Service Support (ISS) programme for the maintenance of naval vessels supplied by the company.
The agreement lays ground to the contract framing the maintenance activity related to Naval Group’s vessels sold to Egypt. “The maintenance activity will enhance further the successful industrial cooperation program supporting the construction process of the three locally built Gowind corvettes,” a company official says.
Naval Group will also create a new subsidiary based in Alexandria, which will manage the maintenance activity. Egypt inked a contract for four Gowind corvettes with Naval Group in July 2014 and the second of the series was launched in September 2018. Production is underway through technology transfer in Alexandria Shipyard.
The first Gowind corvette was delivered in September 2017, while the FREMM multi mission frigate Tahya Misr was delivered in August 2015. In June 2016, Naval Group delivered two Mistral-class Landing Helicopter Dock vessels ordered by the Egyptian Navy in June 2016.
