PT Dirgantara offers transport aircraft

: Feb 14, 2014 - : 9:57 pm

Indonesian Aerospace (IAe), also known as PT Dirgantara, is the only Southeast Asian country to produce military transport aircraft. Its portfolio includes the CN235, NC212i and C295, which all fit into different segments of the market. Sonny Saleh Ibrahim, a spokesman from IAe, pointed out that the CN235’s advantage was its versatility as a multipurpose aircraft. It can land on unpaved airstrips and has a rear ramp to enable loading/unloading.

To date, the government-owned Indonesian firm has supplied transport aircraft to the Asian countries of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Korea and Thailand, for example.

PT Dirgantara in its heyday employed 19,600 people, but at its nadir this dropped startlingly to just 3,000 in 2003. Ibrahim spoke confidently of the enterprise’s future, and its current workforce of 4,200.

The Portuguese Air Force brought a Spanish-built C-295M aircraft to Singapore for the show. Indonesia acts as a delivery centre for the C-295 for Asian customers.
