The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) received a delivery of four domestically-made G2000 Mk II Fast Interceptor Crafts (FIC) on Friday (Jan. 12). These boats are part of 13 Mk II FICs that the RMN ordered from Gading Marine in 2022.

Gading Marine, a Malaysian private company in the shipbuilding and marine engineering industry based in Selangor, previously delivered six G2000 Mk I FICs to the RMN in 2021.

Compared to the Mk I, the G2000 Mk II has received numerous improvements such as the addition of a Remote Control Weapon Station (RCWS) housing a 12.7 mm caliber heavy machine gun, more powerful engines, and some internal modifications to increase comfort for the crews and embarked troops.

The 26-ton displacement G2000 Mk II has an aluminum hull with a dimension of 18 meters in length, a beam of 4.6 meters, and a 0.99 m draft. The craft is powered by a pair of MAN V12 1650hp diesel engines driving two HAMILTON HTX42 Water Jets. With a maximum speed of 50 knots at full load displacement, it has a maximum range of 350 nautical miles under a cruising speed of 35 knots.

Aside from a 12.7 mm caliber heavy machine gun in the RCWS mount, the G2000 Mk II can also be armed with either one 7.62 mm caliber minigun or a 40 mm grenade launcher on its bow including a pair of manually operated 7.62 mm caliber machine guns mounted side-by-side on its stern.

The boat is crewed by 5 personnel and can carry up to eight fully-equipped troops on board.
