TAI’s Hurjet Flies at Egypt International Airshow

Hurjet, Türkiye’s first indigenous jet-powered supersonic trainer aircraft, performed a demonstration flight earlier this week at the Egypt International Airshow.

The Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI)-made craft performed in the air for about 10 minutes at the event that took place at El Alamein International Airport near Alexandria. , The company also displayed its indigenous combat aircraft Kaan, the T129 ATAK helicopter and the unmanned aerial vehicle Aksungur.

TAI began work on Hurjet in 2017. The aircraft flew for the first time in April 2023. It is slated to enter the Turkish Air Force inventory by 2025.

The jet has attracted much international attention. According to reports, the Spanish Air Force. Spain is considering the Hurjet as a potential replacement for its aging fleet of Northrop F-5s. TAI recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GE Aerospace and Turkish Engine Industries (TEI) to integrate the F404 engine into the newer variants of the Hurjet.
