Turkish Airlines set to order Airbus and Boeing jets

Our Bureau - : Nov 13, 2023 - : 3:26 am

Bloomberg is reporting that Turkish Airlines is poised to order 350 aircraft at this week’s Dubai Air Show, starting Monday, November 13.

The agency says, quoting un-named persons, that “the agreement could be announced as soon as Monday, coinciding with the start of the 2023 edition of the Dubai Air Show,”

In May the airline’s Chairman Ahmet Bolat said that the airline was closing in on ordering 600 new aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing with 400 narrow-body and 200 would be wide-body. Mr Bolat added that the airline would operate over 800 airplanes by 2033.

If that translates into a firm order Boeing would pick up an order for 250 aircraft.

Turkish Airlines has huge ambitions to dramatically increase the size of its already large hub and leverage its geographic location at the crossroads of Asia and Europe.

Currently, the airline operates 435 aircraft with another 97 on order. Its fleet is built around the Airbus A320 Family, A330 and A350. Its Boeing fleet is principally made up of Boeing 737 MAX, 787 and 777 aircraft.

The new order will likely include the A320neoXLR, the A350-1000 and from Boeing the 737-10, the 777-9 and 787-10 models.

The airline has experienced incredible expansion over the past 20 years.

Since 2003 its passenger numbers have leapt from around 10 million to 70 million and the number of destinations it services 103 to 342, while revenue has jumped from US$3 billion to US$18 billion.
