Aeralis Inks Digital Engineering Contract with ShinMaywa

Our Bureau - : Mar 16, 2023 - : 5:16 am

British Military fast-jet company Aeralis and Japanese aircraft manufacturer ShinMaywa will work together to establish best practices in the implementation of digital engineering processes for aircraft design and manufacturing.  ShinMaywa, which makes the US-2 Flying Boat used by the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force, has extensive aerostructures experience and wants to introduce full digital engineering processes in its workflow. The two companies will start working together immediately to find ways to incorporate digital engineering processes into ShinMaywa’s aircraft and AeroSystems business. Experts from both companies will be embedded in the process.

“Application of digital transformation is crucial in the future aircraft manufacturing,” said Katsuo Tanaka, President Aircraft Division at ShinMaywa. “This collaboration is the first step towards future programmes and it contributes to enforcement of our aircraft manufacturing business.” “Today’s signing between AERALIS and ShinMaywa represents a significant step in the future of aviation design and international collaboration,” said Aeralis CEO, Tristan Crawford. “We are incredibly proud of the pioneering work that AERALIS is doing in this space, and to work with such a distinguished company in the aerospace industry is a testament to this.”

In December last year, the UK Ministry of Defence had announced a £9 million contract with Aeralis. The company will provide digital engineering services to the MoD which is intent on benefiting from the company’s approach to digital aircraft design, engineering and manufacturing.  The company has developed a system to reduce the time and cost of developing its fighter jets. Japan and the U.K. are also working together, along with Italy, on the Global Combat Air Programme. The plan is to develop a next-generation fighter aircraft by 2035.
