Turkiye’s Akım Metal has introduced the Helicopter Visual Landing Assistance (HVLA) system at the ongoing SAHA Expo.
The HVLA is a completely domestic and national system developed especially for naval aviation.
By enabling helicopters to land safely and precisely, HVLA is not only in the inventory of the Turkish Naval Forces Command, but is also actively used in new shipbuilding projects.
Akim Metal has delivered six HVLA systems so far since 2022 to the Turkish Navy. “We plan to deliver one more this year to the (Turkish) navy, and five to 10 platforms in 2025,” Mehmet Unal, Foreign Sales and Business Development Manager, told Daily News on the sidelines of SAHA Expo.
“This system is of critical importance for the defence industry and is part of our mission to eliminate dependence on foreign systems,” Unal added.
The HVLA can be installed in almost all ships and vessels and takes about a month’s time for installation.
Akim Metal, which is the only makers of HVLA in Turkiye, is targeting countries friendly to Ankara for the export of these system.
“Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Kuwait and Qatar have shown keen interest in the system and are in talks with the Turkish government for the purchase of the HVLA. We are ready to serve them,” Unal added.
We Increase Turkey's Innovation Power with R&D Center
“As Akım Metal, we have a strong presence not only in the defense industry but also in many other sectors such as white goods, automotive, industrial motors, LED lighting and aviation,” Burak Bikmaz, Industrial and Structural Design Team Leader.
Established in 2011, the company’s R&D center continues to work in line with the vision of increasing Turkey's innovation potential. The projects developed at this center aim to meet the critical needs of the defense industry by producing domestic and national solutions, Bikmaz said.
With its SMB Technics brand, the company operates in critical areas such as motion control technologies and CNC machines. “We successfully carry out all processes from the design to the production of servo motors, and offer local solutions to supply problems in foreign systems. We demonstrate our difference in this field with our LED lighting products developed under our Fermada brand, and our Galion-S and Galion-L products used in coast guard ships,” he added.
HVLA System and Other Innovative Solutions
In addition to the HVLA System, Akim Metal is also displaying other critical systems such as SGSI (Stabilized Landing Angle Indicator System) and HRS (Horizon Line Reference System). “These systems were successfully tested under real conditions and yielded results far beyond expectations,” Bikmaz said.
