Airbus has successfully concluded a deal with American Airlines at the ongoing air show that will see the US carrier acquire 50 of the new longer-range jetliners. The A321XLR is based on the A321neo, under the terms of the purchase agreement, American Airlines will convert 30 of its existing A321neo slots to A321XLRs, in addition to orders for another 20 A321XLRs. Airbus says that the A321XLR will have the longest range of any single-aisle commercial jetliner, which will allow airlines to operate the aircraft from U.S. East Coast airports to medium-size European cities. The A321XLR will have a maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) of 101 metric tonnes and is powered by the same engines. The A321XLR has more than 90 percent commonality with the A321neo.
