Aselsan Puts Anti-Drone System on Display

: May 23, 2018 - : 4:50 pm

Aselsan is promoting its IHTAR Mini/Micro unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Air Defence System here at KADEX.

The anti-drone system has been designed to neutralize mini and micro UAV threats in urban and rural environments. Company officials are confident of market success for the new anti-drone system,

“Our anti- drone system is based on proven technologies and offers the necessary performance to protect critical military / commercial areas from Micro / Mini UAV threats. With the increased proliferation of Micro / Mini UAVs in the region, we are hopeful of catering to the market needs,” an Aselsan official tells Daily News.

The IHTAR anti-drone system is available in fixed and deployable configurations and comprises of the GERGEDAN RF countermeasure system, ACAR radar as its primary sensor and HSY electro-optic system which are all tied together by the command and control station.

GERGEDAN uses its specially designed antenna patterns to create a semi-spherical protection umbrella to cater for defence against all known mini-UAV/model aircraft attacks. The ACARS uses a Ku-band Pulsed Doppler Radar with Pulse Compression and can perform Track-While-Scan (TWS) when in surveillance mode.

It can detect mini-UAVs out to a distance of 5km. The IHTAR systems also has omni-directional jamming capability for defence against swarm attacks. The anti-drone system is available for export is being promoted by Aselsan worldwide.

NORINCO Hard Sells SR5 MRL

China North Industries Company (NORINCO) is showcasing its SR5 Universal Artillery Rocket Launcher (UARL) along with the Fire Dragon 40 rocket at the ongoing KADEX 2018. Based on a 6×6 heavy truck chassis, the SR5 features a two-pod capability, that can fire either 122 mm (20 per pod) or 220 mm (six per pod) rockets.

It is a universal launching platform adopting such technologies as canister launching, automatic loading and common-frame rocket launching. For greater tactical flexibility, the vehicle can mount one of each pod, thus significantly widening local commanders’ options for fire support.

The system also has the capability to fire guided rockets – the Fire Dragon 40 122mm rocket has both INS and GPS systems, contributing to a circular error probability (CEP) of under 25m at ranges from 20-40km; the King Dragon 60 220mm rocket uses laser terminal guidance at ranges from 20-70km and the company claims a CEP of 3m. According to the current information, the SR-5 is in service with Algeria, Bahrain, Venezuela and possibly some other countries.
