“The customers are from the European region and have not operated the L-39 previously,”  Marco Venanzetti, Executive Vice-President L-39 NG at Areo Vodochody Aerospace tells Daily News on the sidelines of the ongoing FIA 2018.

The new aircraft is garnering keen interest from customers across the globe, and also from existing users of the old L-39 trainers, he says.

“Advanced negotiations are also underway with two more potential customers and we expect to close the deals soon,” he adds.

After focussing on aerostructures, the Senegalese L-39NG sale of four aircraft represents the first international sale of the new aircraft in 20 years. Launch customer Senegal ordered four aircraft in a light attack configuration in April.

The first aircraft is currently being assembled and the company expects it to roll out in the first week of October. “We expect to have the first flight test in November this year,” Venanzetti informs.

The company is currently aiming to deliver six L-39NGs in 2020 before moving to 12 aircraft in 2021 and then start full scale production at the rate of 20 aircraft per year. “If we get more customers, we have a provision to increase the production rate,” he says.

Senegal is expected to get the delivery from fall 2020 and is expected to complete the deal by February 2021.
