Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates Airline, has placed an order for five additional Boeing 777 Freighters, adding to its previous order of five. This brings Emirates’ total Boeing aircraft orders to 249, including 14 freighters. The latest order was finalised in September and had been listed as unidentified on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries website.
Emirates SkyCargo, currently operating 11 Boeing 777 freighters, plans to expand its fleet to 21 in the coming years to meet rising demand for air cargo services.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, stated, "We're investing in new freighter aircraft to meet surging demand and provide our customers around the world with even more flexibility, connectivity and options." He also noted that this reflects Dubai’s growing status as a global logistics hub and the success of Emirates SkyCargo’s tailored solutions for various industries.
The Boeing 777 Freighter has a range of 9,200 kilometres (4,970 nautical miles) and can carry up to 102 tonnes of cargo, making it the largest and longest-range twin-engine freighter available. This capacity allows for more direct routes between key markets, such as the Middle East, the U.S., and Europe.
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said, "Emirates continues to set the direction for our industry and we deeply appreciate the trust they have placed in the Boeing widebody family to serve as the backbone of their global fleet."
"We are proud to support Emirates SkyCargo's growth as it relies on the performance and versatility of our 777 Freighter to further connect the world."
Boeing’s forecast indicates a need for 2,845 additional freighters in the next 20 years to support growing global trade and e-commerce demand. To date, Boeing has delivered 275 777 Freighters, and its freighter aircraft account for over 90% of global dedicated cargo capacity.
