Fly Jaya to Launch Domestic Flights in Indonesia by Mid-2025

Fly Jaya, a new entrant in Indonesia’s aviation industry operated by PT Surya Mataram Nusantara, is set to launch domestic flights with a focus on connecting underserved regions across the country. Founded in 2023, the airline aims to bridge Indonesia’s vast archipelago by providing reliable and efficient connectivity between cities and districts, addressing gaps in air transport infrastructure, and supporting regional development.

Indonesia's Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, welcomed the entry of Fly Jaya into the domestic aviation market. He highlighted the high demand for air travel in Indonesia.

"Indonesia requires 750 aircraft, but currently, there are only 410 serving domestic operations. Therefore, anyone investing in increasing the number of aircraft must certainly be welcomed," Thohir stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/1), as reported by Antara.

Thohir also noted that new airlines like Fly Jaya would increase competition within the domestic market. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening state-owned airlines such as Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, and Pelita Air to meet growing demand.

Fly Jaya plans to commence operations in mid-2025, prioritising short-haul routes to areas with limited access to commercial airlines. Initial routes are expected to include flights from Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Airport to destinations such as Yogyakarta, Bandung, and Balikpapan. The airline’s fleet will consist of ATR 72-500 aircraft, chosen for their fuel efficiency and suitability for short-distance flights. These aircraft feature ergonomic designs to enhance passenger comfort.

The airline’s official statement highlighted its mission: “Our airline is designed to serve not only major centres but also remote and underserved regions, fostering connectivity, economic growth, and cultural exchange.”

Fly Jaya obtained standard certification from the Ministry of Transportation in December 2024. However, it is still in the process of acquiring an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), a mandatory requirement for full operational clearance. The airline aims to complete this process to begin services as scheduled.

With its planned operations and targeted routes, Fly Jaya seeks to enhance connectivity, support regional development, and meet the increasing needs of Indonesia’s domestic travel market.
