VARD, a subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group based in Norway, secured a contract to construct two Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOV) for a client in Taiwan.
These vessels, built on VARD’s new 4 39 design, are customised to support Taiwan’s growing offshore wind industry. They are designed to serve various functions including support operations for wind farms, as well as assisting in the construction and installation phases.
According to VARD, the design of these vessels emphasises sustainability, prioritising reducing environmental impact through efficient machinery and propulsion systems, enhancing station-keeping capabilities, workability, and operational reliability.
Scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027 respectively, the vessels will measure approximately 102.7 metres in length with a beam of 19.5 metres each. They will have a capacity to accommodate 120 individuals onboard and will offer high-quality crew and client facilities. Furthermore, the design includes provisions for integrating future technologies such as increased battery packs and alternative fuel options.
