Indra Strengthens Presence in Asia with Thai Radar Supply

Our Bureau - : Dec 11, 2024 - : 11:42 pm

Indra will continue to strengthen its operations in Asia’s defence sector following the award of a project to supply the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) with a long-range Lanza radar, competing with several prominent companies in the industry.

The radar is built for high reliability, ensuring uninterrupted operation to maintain effective airspace surveillance. It is capable of detecting advanced threats, including fifth-generation aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones. This system is particularly beneficial in regions with heavy rainfall, like Thailand, where radar performance can be compromised by adverse weather.

The radar includes sophisticated algorithms that protect against operational interference and can counteract reflections caused by structures such as wind turbines and solar installations.

This project marks the second radar delivered by Indra to the RTAF. Previously, the company supplied a similar radar system along with an advanced system named Airdef, which monitors airspace status and supports mission operations.

Francisco Jiménez, Indra’s Defence Systems Business Development Director, commented: “We are honoured that the Thai Air Force continues to trust our ability to adapt our systems to their specific operational needs. Our systems are built to operate continuously, ensuring that we contribute significantly to the security of the country.”

Indra is a prominent player in radar technology, having delivered systems to 30 countries across five continents, along with NATO forces. Its radar systems support a comprehensive range of functions, including space surveillance in near-Earth orbits, long-range and medium-range surveillance, anti-aircraft defence, naval protection, and drone interception.

The Spain-based multinational company operates in defence, air traffic, and space technologies. It focuses on maintaining current operations while anticipating future technological developments. Its expertise in system integration, commitment to innovation, and collaboration across European projects position Indra as a reliable technology partner for global operations and digital transformation initiatives.
