The Israeli Airforce (IAF) has decided to ground all its C-130 and Aerial refueling 707’s, after an investigation committee found flaws in the maintenance procedures of the transport aircraft performed by teams of Israel aerospace industries (IAI).

Major General Amikam Norkin, commander of the IAF instructed to stop all the flights of the C-130 and 707 ‘s used for training.

The incident that resulted in the investigation occurred on January 30, when a C-130 transport aircraft moved forward without control during a static engine test in the IAF Nevatim airbase in Southern Israel.

According to the Israeli defense forces (IDF) spokesperson the C-130 moved forward some 35 feet and stopped only when its front landing gear went into a ditch.

Damage was caused to the left wing and the lower part of the front section of the fuselage.

As a result of the incident, two civilian technicians were injured and evacuated to the base clinic, one suffering from chest pains and the other from shock.

The IAF started an investigation. Now, after the findings were presented to the IAF commander, he decided to stop all training flights of the C-130 and 707, the two types maintained by IAI teams.

This after the investigation pointed to the cause of the incident – engines running with partial pressure in the braking system, and incorrect operation of the emergency operations leading to the failure to block the aircraft.

In addition, the investigation committee said that IAI’s control and quality assurance processes were not fulfilled completely, and that the IAI team did not identify the deviations from the air force regulations and standards to which the industry is committed.

IAI spokesperson said on June 20, that the company has been supplying service to the IAF for many years to the full satisfaction of the ministry of defense.

“The company has been a full partner in the investigation and does and will do anything needed to fix the flaws that have been discovered.”
