Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (JAL) have agreed to jointly explore potential collaboration in the aircraft maintenance and aftermarket sector, as outlined in a recently signed memorandum. This sector covers critical services such as repairs, maintenance, parts supply, and refurbishment, which are essential for maintaining flight safety and enhancing operational efficiency.
With a global increase in demand for aircraft and related services, MHI and JAL are looking to address the various challenges currently affecting the aircraft aftermarket business. JAL will contribute its expertise in aircraft operations and maintenance, while MHI will provide its knowledge and experience in aircraft design, manufacturing, and maintenance, especially in North America.
JAL Engineering Co., Ltd. (JALEC), responsible for JAL’s aircraft maintenance, will be involved in this joint exploration. Additionally, MHI and JAL are also considering expanding their cooperation to include human resources and technology development in the aircraft industry. This initiative aims to combine the strengths of both companies to better meet the evolving needs of the sector.
