SATS Expands IATA Agreement for Global Dangerous Goods Compliance

Our Bureau - : Oct 1, 2024 - : 12:01 pm

SATS Ltd has signed a three-year agreement with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to expand the implementation of DG AutoCheck, a compliance solution for handling dangerous goods, across its international network. This agreement follows SATS’ recent acquisition of Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), further extending its global reach.

The expanded rollout will include the adoption of DG AutoCheck at both current and newly integrated stations within the combined SATS and WFS network. This network now operates over 215 stations in 27 countries, handling more than 50% of the world’s air cargo. By implementing DG AutoCheck, the company aims to improve the safety and efficiency of dangerous goods transport.

DG AutoCheck is an automated system developed to ensure compliance with dangerous goods regulations. It helps reduce errors in shipment processing by replacing manual cross-referencing of documents with automated checks, enhancing both safety and accuracy. The system supports faster processing times and improved transparency in handling dangerous goods, with the ability to generate detailed compliance reports, perform instant Q Value calculations, and provide packaging previews for inspections.

SATS’ Chief Operating Officer, Henry Low, said, “SATS is proud to have signed the first global agreement with IATA to implement DG AutoCheck across our network as part of our commitment to the highest standards of aviation safety and security. We commend IATA for this initiative which is helping to maximise safety and improve efficiency by ensuring clear compliance and visibility of dangerous goods shipments moving by air cargo.”

IATA’s Director of Safety and Cargo Compliance, David Wall, praised SATS and WFS for their efforts, stating, “We are pleased to support SATS and WFS in the expanded implementation of DG AutoCheck across their global network. This solution significantly enhances the safety, accuracy, and efficiency of dangerous goods handling, which is critical as air cargo volumes continue to grow. SATS’ commitment to adopting innovative safety measures sets a strong example for the entire industry.”

A certificate handover ceremony took place on 27 September in Paris, marking the formalisation of the agreement between SATS and IATA.

IATA reports that the use of DG AutoCheck has resulted in a 50% reduction in processing times and fewer errors compared to manual methods. The tool also offers business intelligence insights and supports digital integration for cargo management systems. As the air cargo industry continues to grow, DG AutoCheck is expected to play an increasingly important role in ensuring safe and compliant transportation of dangerous goods.
