Schiebel Secures New Contract with EMSA for Maritime Operations

Schiebel has been awarded a new multi-year contract by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) to provide services using the company's CAMCOPTER S-100 unmanned aerial system (UAS). The contract covers the provision of remotely piloted aircraft services to support EU member states in emission monitoring and maritime surveillance tasks.

This marks Schiebel's third consecutive contract with EMSA. The company first secured a tender with the agency in 2018, followed by a second in 2021. The latest agreement spans two years, with the possibility of a two-year extension.

Since 2018, the CAMCOPTER S-100 has completed over 1,780 deployment days under EMSA’s operations. These missions have been carried out across various European nations, including Croatia, France, Finland, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Romania, Lithuania, Iceland, Germany, and Belgium. Deployed from both land and sea, the S-100 has been utilised for tasks such as general maritime surveillance, search and rescue operations, oil spill detection, and monitoring the sulphur content of ship emissions to ensure compliance with International Maritime Organisation (IMO) regulations.

The S-100 is capable of carrying multiple payloads with a combined weight of up to 50 kg. Its ability to hover and operate at low speeds makes it particularly suited for maritime applications.

“We have been supporting European maritime authorities for almost six years now and are extremely proud to continue our success story with EMSA. It proves once again, that the availability and reliability of the S-100 is unrivalled,” said Neil Hunter, Head of Global Sales for Schiebel.
