Thales Australia and RGM Maintenance have announced an agreement to enhance the support of the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) heavy vehicle fleet. RGM, which is based in Queensland, will support Thales in northern Queensland and Darwin to ‘broaden the availability of maintenance capabilities for defence bases’.

A press release stated, ‘The collaboration will help the prime contractor access specialised skills, experiences, and training to support the maintenance of the Australian military’s heavy vehicle fleet. It is hoped that the partnership will reduce the cost of heavy vehicle transport.’

RGM has been supporting the ADF for two decades in terms of light, medium, heavy and protected vehicle maintenance, while it has also collaborated with Thales for the past 15 years. For example, the two partnered on the painting and surface preparation of 40 Bushmasters dispatched to Ukraine.

Cam Purdey, Director of Defence Maintenance Services, Thales Australia and New Zealand, explained: ‘We are very excited about this new partnership with RGM. This is a clear demonstration of the Thales’ long-term commitment to growing and maintaining an enduring, sustainable, and resilient sovereign industrial defence capability – increasing the skills of the defence industry workforce and growing employment opportunities throughout regional Australia.’

Russell Newman, Director of RGM, added, ‘RGM is very proud of the relationship we have had with Thales over the last 15 years, originally with a contract to support the Bushmaster training fleet and the growth that has led from there. We strive for excellence in maintenance delivery for the ADF.’
