Indonesia’s Garuda Maintenance Facility AeroAsia (GMF AeroAsia) has received a certification from Lockheed Martin to conduct Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) activities for C-130H aircraft on Sunday (March 13).
The certification from the US defense company will enable GMF AeroAsia to perform MRO and Structural Integrity Program (SIP) to all C-130 military transport aircraft currently operated by the Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU). Furthermore, Lockheed Martin’s certification also became the basis for the company to renew its Approval Military Repair Station (AMARS) certificate from the Indonesian Defense Airworthiness Authority (IDAA). This means that in 2022, GMF AeroAsia is also certified to perform MRO for the Airbus A330, Boeing B737, CASA/PTDI C212 series of aircraft.
“The renewal of the AMARS certificate with the addition of this capability is our asset to support and carry out the mandate conveyed by the Indonesian Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, regarding defense equipment maintenance which needs to be maximized in Indonesia,” said GMF AeroAsia CEO, Andi Fahrurrozi. “We, with great pride and open arms, will support this with all our might,” he added.
Following Lockheed Martin’s certification, the US company will provide support in the forms of technical data license, license agreement, and service bulletin for the modernization of the Hercules C-130 aircraft, including center wing box replacement and avionics upgrade works.
GMF AeroAsia is a subsidiary of the Indonesian flag carrier airline Garuda Indonesia. Founded in 2002, it has become one of the largest aircraft maintenance facilities in the Asia region. In February 2021, the company has expanded its service to conduct MRO for military transport aircraft of the Indonesian armed forces (TNI).
