RTAF Receives Final Batch of T-50TH Aircraft

Our Bureau - : Aug 22, 2024 - : 1:28 am

The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) formally took delivery of the last two T-50TH jet trainer/light fighter aircraft at Wing 4 in Takhli, Nakhon Sawan Province, Thailand, on Monday, 19 August. These two aircraft complete the order of 14 aircraft placed by the RTAF in 2021, all manufactured by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).

In conjunction with the delivery, KAI announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Thai Aviation Industries (TAI) to establish a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in Thailand. This agreement aims to create a robust support system for the T-50TH aircraft currently operated by the RTAF, while also enhancing the strategic partnership between Thailand and South Korea in the aviation sector.

Although the delivery of the 14 aircraft has now been completed, the RTAF still has a plan to acquire an additional two T-50TH aircraft between 2025 and 2028, bringing the total fleet to 16.

Beyond the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF), the T-50 two-seater trainer and light fighter aircraft have been exported to four Southeast Asian countries in the past decade. In addition to Thailand, the air forces of Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia are either operating or awaiting delivery of the aircraft. The T-50 has also been exported to Iraq and, most recently, Poland.
