U.S. Approves Potential AIM-120C-8 Missile Sale to Singapore

Our Bureau - : Sep 11, 2024 - : 7:56 pm

The U.S. State Department has approved a potential sale of AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) to Singapore, valued at approximately USD 133 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has informed Congress of this possible transaction.

Singapore has requested to acquire 54 AIM-120C-8 missiles and 2 guidance sections. The package also includes spare parts, missile containers, support equipment, testing apparatus, software, documentation, training, and various support services.

The U.S. government views this sale as reinforcing its foreign policy and national security goals by enhancing the security of a strategic ally in Asia. The sale is expected to help Singapore maintain its operational readiness and strengthen interoperability with U.S. and coalition forces, contributing to regional stability.

This transfer will not affect the military balance in the Indo-Pacific, and Singapore is deemed capable of integrating the AIM-120C-8 missiles into its armed forces without issue.

The primary contractor for the deal is RTX Corporation, based in Tucson, Arizona. No offset agreements are linked to the sale, and no additional U.S. personnel will be stationed in Singapore as part of the implementation.

The U.S. government also confirmed that the sale will not impact its defense readiness.
