Vietjet Explores US-Vietnam Economic Partnerships

Our Bureau - : Jan 16, 2025 - : 9:17 pm

From 9 to 11 January 2025, Vietjet's senior leadership visited the United States to meet with strategic partners during the "Friends of Vietnam Summit" held at President-elect Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

The delegation's arrival in Miami marked Vietjet’s inaugural flight to the U.S., operated by a wide-body aircraft and named “Hello America!” This flight represents a milestone for the airline and its efforts to strengthen its strategic ties with the United States.

The airline is a prominent contributor to U.S.-Vietnam economic cooperation, with trade agreements valued at nearly USD 50 billion involving major U.S. corporations, including Boeing, GE, CFM, Pratt & Whitney, and Honeywell. Additional agreements, worth approximately USD 14 billion, are under negotiation. The airline has also established collaborations with leading technology firms such as Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Apple, and Google. Discussions with SpaceX and other providers are underway to explore advanced in-flight internet solutions for its fleet. Vietjet's efforts aim to foster high-tech workforce development and drive innovation in sectors such as semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and big data.

"The strategic partnerships Vietjet has forged in the U.S. reflect our deep commitment to strengthening the economic bridge between the two nations," stated Nguyen The Phuong Thao, founder of Vietjet who lead the delegation. "We are proud that Vietjet’s growth not only directly contributes to job creation for American workers and advances technological progress, but also promotes Vietnam's economic development," she added.

In 2017, then-President Donald Trump witnessed the signing of Vietjet's initial order for 100 Boeing 737 Max aircraft during an official visit to Vietnam. At his suggestion, the order was later doubled to 200 aircraft. Boeing is scheduled to deliver the first 14 planes from this agreement to Vietjet in 2025.

Vietjet's leadership reiterated its commitment to fostering connections between cultures and creating business opportunities while providing affordable fares and quality services. The airline views its partnerships and development as a means to strengthen global ties and support economic growth for both nations.
