Exciting Times Ahead
There is one thing that never changes about the Farnborough Air Show – the
palpable sense of excitement in the air and the enthusiasm by companies to
put on a real show. With the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and other regional
tensions forcing countries to loosen their purse strings and eye major arms
purchases, defence companies have bought a wide range of products and
capabilities to the biggest air show of the year. Among the companies that
will be in the limelight is Embraer, which is riding on the momentum generated
by its C-390 Millennium new generation multi-mission transport aircraft
having received orders from air forces in seven countries.
A notable trend in the defence sector is that of militaries investing in
intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR)
aircraft that are crucial for situation awareness and battlefield transparency.
Israeli defence technology is much in demand, with a number of European
countries and several militaries in South East Asia purchasing ISTAR aircraft
made by Israeli firms. With advances in technologies such as AI and machine
learning, one can expect a lot more action in this field in the years ahead.
With many air forces around the world either acquiring new fighter jets or
shopping for them, the need for technologically advanced trainer aircraft has
increased. Although North America still commands a major share of the
global market, other regions are buzzing with activity, both in terms of
development and acquisition of new trainer aircraft. The growing preference
for multi-role trainer aircraft is expected to act as a catalyst for the growth of
the trainer aircraft market.
