GROWING IN CAPABILITY

The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has evolved into a multi-di-
mensional force. In an exclusive interview with Daily News, Air
Chief Marshal Punpakdee Pattanakul,Commander-in-Chief of the
Royal Thai Air Force, outlined his plans for the service, including
procurement of new fighter jets. The RTAF has three main fighter
wings: Wing 4 in Takhli, Nakhon Sawan; Wing 7 in Surat Thani and
Wing 1 in Nakhon Ratchasima which operate F-16 and Gripen
fighters. The RTAF is now eyeing the replacement of the F-16s
operated by Wing 1. Pattanakul stated that Thailand is looking to
procure additional F-16s or Gripens to meet this requirement.
The RTAF is also looking to replace its long-serving C-130H
transport aircraft with a more modern type, he said.
