Unveils New Tarantula Armoured Vehicle
Malaysian firm MILDEF International
Technologies unveiled its new Tarantula,
4x4 High Mobility Armoured Vehicle (HMAV)
at the ongoing DSA. Also being showcased
is MILDEF’s M113 Modernization effort that
sees the Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) fitted
with a Remote-Controlled Weapon System
(RCWS). The modernized M113 is protect-
ed against small arms fire to STANAG
4569 Level 2 and mine blast protection
to STANAG 4569 Level 2B. The upgrad-
ed IFV features an embedded GPS, VHF
and HF radios, 3 wireless active intercoms,
noise reduction features and a Battlefield
Management System (BMS).
The Made-in-Malaysia HMAV can seat seven
personnel along with a crew of three and has
a combat weight of 12,000 kg. The armed
Tarantula is fitted with an RCWS with a
single 12.7 mm M2 Browning and a co-axial
7.62 mm General Purpose Machine Gun.
It is also fitted with a 16x76 mm grenade
launcher. The vehicle’s powerplant develops
340 hp, giving it a power to weight ration of
28 hp/tonne. A company official told Daily
News that the Tarantula has STANAG 4569
Level 3 protection for the front, STANAG
4569 Level 2/3 side protection and mine
blast protection to STANAG 4569 Level 2B.

Turkish Aerospace has brought a full-scale mockup of its T625 Gokbey utility helicopter to the show. The six tonne class heli-
copter can carry 12 passengers and is powered by indigenous Turkish engines.
