AIROD Signs Collaboration with TAI, ASFAT

Malaysia’s AIROD (Aircraft Inspection, Repair & Overhaul Depot) has entered into a collaboration with Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc (TAI). The partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), is aimed at exploring potential synergies in marketing and sales of TAI’s aerospace products.

The collaboration will also focus on modernisation and upgrades across various aircraft platforms. AIROD’s selection by TAI is seen as a testament to the commitment to advancing the aerospace and aviation sector in Malaysia.

The signing ceremony, held at TAI’s headquarters in Ankara, was witnessed by the Malaysian Minister of Defence, Mohamed Khaled Nordin. The MoA was signed by TAI’s CEO, Temel Kotil, and AIROD Group President, Edron Hayata Ahmad.

Mohamed Khaled stated, “The collaboration is set to enhance the Malaysia-Türkiye diplomatic bilateral relationship and propel the Malaysian aviation defence industry to greater heights.”

Edron Hayata expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasising the opportunity to merge indigenous Turkish engineering expertise with Malaysian innovation in Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul-Upgrade (MRO-U) activities.

The partnership is designed to stimulate growth in the aviation defence sector and align with industry demands and international standards. Kotil, speaking about the agreement, said: “We accelerated our collaboration towards new opportunities by expanding our office, which started operating as a design centre in Malaysia in 2021. We will strive to further the close cooperation between the two countries in the future.”

The Malaysian company also signed a Collaboration Framework Agreement (CFA) with ASFAT for technical and logistic services of various aircraft platforms, including the A400M, S-70A, CN-235, and C-130.

This partnership builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2023) last year. The agreement aims to drive growth in the aviation defence sector and meet industry demands and international standards.

Edron Hayata said, “The partnership between AIROD and ASFAT represents another significant milestone in our ongoing pursuit of engineering expertise and the enhancement of our nation’s defence capabilities in the aerospace sector. This collaboration will facilitate the exchange of valuable experiences and capabilities, leading to mutual benefits for both organisations and end users in both nations.”

Mohamed Khaled emphasised that this collaboration would strengthen the Malaysia-Turkiye diplomatic relationship and elevate the Malaysian aviation defence industry to new heights. The partnership between ASFAT and AIROD is set to bring significant advancements to the aerospace industry and foster mutual growth and success for both countries.
