Altair, a company specialising in computational intelligence, has entered a partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA) under the ESA Partnership Initiative for Commercialisation (EPIC). Through this collaboration, Altair will make its aerospace technology available to startups, companies, research centres, and universities across Europe that are working with ESA or developing ESA-supported technologies. The technology will be accessible via Altair’s HyperWorks and RapidMiner platforms.
"ESA is a reference point for anyone working in the space sector in Europe and across the world, constantly working with its local agencies to foster innovation throughout its programs. For Altair, partnering with ESA represents the coming together of two pioneers in the aerospace industry," said Pietro Cervellera, senior vice president of aerospace and defence at Altair. "We are delighted to work together with the ESA to offer access to our simulation, AI, and data analytics solutions. Our tools help accelerate and de-risk the exploration of disruptive ideas and further our mission of creating a safer, more connected, and more sustainable aerospace industry."
The EPIC programme provides startups backed by ESA with Altair’s AI-powered engineering tools to support rapid development and testing. These tools aim to assist startups in creating minimum viable products (MVPs) more quickly, a key step in obtaining funding and advancing towards commercialisation. Startups will have access to the same simulation, data analytics, and AI resources used by major aerospace organisations, along with Altair’s consulting and technical support.
Joana Kamenova, who leads EPIC for ESA, noted, "With nearly 40 years of domain expertise in the industry, Altair's broad technology portfolio plays a leading role in countless aerospace organisations worldwide. We look forward to helping expand the reach of Altair's technology so organisations throughout Europe can leverage the best-in-class tools necessary to usher in the next generation of space innovation."
Established in 2022, EPIC aims to promote entrepreneurship and aid the commercial development of European startups. The programme connects corporate, academic, and institutional partners with ESA-supported startups, offering access to technology and resources within Europe’s space innovation network, which includes ESA Business Incubation Centres, ESA Technology Brokers, and ESA Φ-lab initiatives. Through this partnership, EPIC seeks to expand the aerospace innovation ecosystem and further diversify the industry.
