Cathay Pacific, SITA Expand Connectivity Across 51 Airports

Our Bureau - : Jan 24, 2025 - : 2:26 am

SITA and Cathay Pacific have entered a new agreement aimed at significantly boosting network bandwidth at Cathay Pacific’s airports. The initiative is expected to increase capacity by up to five times while maintaining cost efficiency. This aligns with the airline’s strategy to expand its use of Cloud applications while ensuring optimal performance for legacy systems.

Cathay Pacific was one of the first airlines to adopt the SITA Connect solution, and the renewal of this agreement signals continued trust in SITA. The airline will now transition to the newly launched SITA Connect Go service. This collaboration will improve network connectivity at 51 airports globally using the SITA Connect Go at Airports product, which combines dual Internet connectivity offering bandwidth of up to 300 Mbps. The contract includes a 12-month design, build, test, and implementation period.

The SITA Connect Go service is expected to increase bandwidth by up to five times the current capacity, enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring continued cost optimization. The new infrastructure will support Cathay Pacific’s shift to Cloud applications, improving scalability and efficiency. Additionally, the service includes three Gateways that are specifically designed to support legacy applications, ensuring smooth performance of existing systems while improving global connectivity.

“This agreement with Cathay Pacific is a true testament of how we are able to help airlines maximize their network infrastructures which are key for their ongoing operations. The fact that Cathay Pacific was one of our first clients for SITA Connect and is now one of the first adopters of SITA Connect Go is a clear sign that our technology is delivering valuable results,” said Sumesh Patel, SITA Asia President Asia Pacific.

“Airlines and airport networks in APAC are facing challenges with legacy network infrastructure. SITA Connect Go offers a robust, scalable, and secure SD-WAN platform to meet the need for the growing bandwidth demand and helps airlines shift their focus towards their customers,” he added.

The SITA Connect Go service also offers rapid deployment through SITA’s pre-connected APH-V infrastructure, which will enable quick implementation across Cathay Pacific’s network while reducing downtime and disruption. The flexibility of the service will allow the airline to tailor its connectivity needs to optimise network performance while keeping costs in check.

Rajeev Nair, General Manager – IT Infrastructure and Security at Cathay Pacific added: “Airlines across the world have a clear need for strong and robust airport infrastructure so that we can center our attention on providing the optimal passenger experience. SITA Connect has been helping us deliver efficient operations at airports for several years and we are confident that this renewed partnership with SITA will allow us to significantly increase the network capacity of our existing network in the most cost-effective way, enabling us to further enhance our operational efficiency and allowing us to continue focusing all our efforts on our customers.”

The implementation phase began in April 2024 and is expected to be completed by early Q2 2025, with full operation across all 51 airports by that time.
