Ministerial dialogues and other high-level meetings were among the highlights of the second day of DEFEA 2023 International Defence and Security Exhibition that is currently underway in Athens, Greece.
The Minister of National Defense of Greece, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, toured the exhibition stands for a second day, and held a 45-minute meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Cyprus, Michalis Giorgallas. The two leaders discussed cooperation between the two countries in the defence sector and the joint defence of the two countries.
In the presence of Panagiotopoulos, the Deputy Minister of National Defense, Nikos Hardalias, signed a memorandum of understanding with his Slovak counterpart M. Majer. Hardalias also had meetings with the official military delegations of Armenia, Ghana, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Chief of the Hellenic National Defence, General Staff General Konstantinos Floros, had an official meeting at the event with the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Central African Republic, General Zephirin Mamadou.
Main opposition party SYRIZA's Defense Sector, led by the sector head, Giorgos Tsipras, also attended the event on the second day. The group included former Minister of National Defense Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, former Minister of Citizen Protection Nikos Toskas and former Deputy Minister of National Defense Panagiotis Rigas.
Another highlight of the second day was the Minister of Development and Investments Adonis Georgiadis attending an open discussion on the Greek defence industry that was organized by the Association of Greek Defense Equipment Manufacturers (SEKPY). Georgiadis also toured the exhibitors' booths.
Francois Arbault, Director General for Defense Industry and Space of the European Commission, spoke about the initaitives of the European Defense Fund to strengthen research and development programs. Finally, NATO's Directorate of Defence Investments and Technological Research (DDIT) organised a speech on the subject of the Greek innovation system and the Innovation Fund of the North Atlantic Alliance.
