General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has received EMAR/FR 145 Maintenance Organisation Approval from the French Military Continuing Airworthiness Authority, DSAE. The certification allows GA-ASI to conduct component maintenance under European Military Airworthiness Requirements (EMAR), ensuring compliance with safety and airworthiness regulations.
The EMAR framework is derived from commercial aerospace standards and is recognised by military airworthiness authorities globally. The EMAR/FR 145 certification permits maintenance organisations to carry out critical maintenance work while adhering to strict safety, reliability, and documentation standards. GA-ASI’s approval covers component maintenance (Category C) at its facilities in Poway and Adelanto, California. It also enables the company to issue EMAR Form 1s (Return to Service forms), confirming the airworthiness of serviced components.
“This approval is a significant achievement for GA-ASI, positioning the company to better serve international customers, especially military users of our MQ-9A and MQ-9B UAS platforms,” said Sam Richardson, GA-ASI vice president of Sustainment. “The ability to leverage the EMAR/FR 145 certification streamlines the company’s processes, reduces costs, and accelerates future airworthiness pursuits, as many future customers will recognize this certification rather than requiring a full, independent certification process.”
The approval is expected to enhance GA-ASI’s ability to meet international defence market requirements. The certification, which is widely recognised, allows the company to expand its maintenance operations and provide compliant services to military customers globally.
In addition to operational benefits, the approval brings financial advantages. It reduces future oversight costs for GA-ASI by allowing the company to utilise DSAE Audit Team oversight activities, making the certification process more efficient. For customers, the international recognition of EMAR/FR 145 simplifies maintenance certification, potentially reducing the need for independent certification efforts in non-EMAR countries.
