IAI, Czech MoD Sign 20-Year MMR Radar Contract

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and the Czech Ministry of Defence (MoD) have recently inked a contract aimed at ensuring the sustainability and maintenance of the Czech Republic’s Multi Mission Radars (MMR). The 20-year agreement also involves the participation of local Czech firms, RETIA and VTU, which will play a crucial role as subcontractors in various operational processes.

The MMR radar offers a high standard of aerial situational awareness. Having been integrated into air defence systems such as Barak, David’s Sling, and Iron Dome, a total of 200 radar systems have been distributed worldwide.

“Israel Aerospace Industries’ MMR radar is part of all the State of Israel’s defence systems and has proven its accuracy and precision again and again, saving many lives over the years. These systems will provide the Czech Republic with the most advanced protection for its citizens,” said Eyal Shapira, Vice President and General Manager of the Air Defense & Naval Systems division at IAI ELTA.

“We are proud of the important degree of cooperation achieved with local companies: the knowledge- and technology-sharing will help both our countries and provide more precise aerial surveillance. The advanced Czech Republic radars can simultaneously identify and classify hundreds of targets, detect unmanned platforms, missile barrages, rockets, and other new threats in the arena.”

The MMR radar can effectively manage multiple operations simultaneously, including air defence against aircraft, drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as artillery ranging and identification of various enemy threats such as missile barrages and rockets.

The operational experience of the system in Israel underscores its reliability in providing air defence and situational awareness globally, with interoperability with NATO systems being a notable feature.
