Indonesian state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, operating under the brand InJourney Airports, reported a notable rise in passenger traffic across its 37 managed airports in 2024. As quoted by the Indonesian news agency, Antara, the total passenger volume in this year reached 155.9 million, a 4% increase compared to 150.1 million in 2023, reflecting a strong recovery in the aviation sector post-pandemic.
Domestic travel remained the primary contributor, accounting for 118.03 million passengers, while international routes saw significant growth, serving 37.90 million passengers. Despite this increase in passenger numbers, aircraft movements declined by 4%, from 1.21 million in 2023 to 1.16 million in 2024, as airlines optimized flight schedules and improved passenger load factors, leading to higher occupancy rates.
InJourney attributed its success to strategic collaborations within the aviation ecosystem. The company partnered with airlines to optimize flight slot times and increase passenger capacity, while also introducing new routes and boosting frequencies on existing ones to enhance air connectivity.
A key factor in the year’s success was the Indonesian government's designation of 17 airports as international gateways, 16 of which are managed by InJourney Airports. This initiative strengthened the hub-and-spoke network, improving accessibility for both domestic and international travelers.
The rise of e-commerce also positively influenced operations, with cargo volumes surging by 14% to 1,439 tons, compared to 1,260 tons in 2023. This growth underscores the increasing reliance on air freight for logistics in the e-commerce sector.
The busiest airports under InJourney's management in 2024 were Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, serving 54.8 million passengers; I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, with 23.9 million passengers; Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, hosting 14 million passengers; Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, accommodating 9.6 million passengers; and Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang, handling 7.1 million passengers.
InJourney Airports reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Indonesia’s aviation sector. The company aims to further enhance connectivity, improve the passenger experience, and support sustainable growth. These efforts are designed to bolster the aviation industry's role in driving economic and tourism development across the country.
