Indra Group has introduced IndraMind, an intelligence system aimed at enhancing the automation of critical operations and improving multi-domain operational capabilities. The system is designed to support defence and the modernisation of civil infrastructure, which the company views as essential for economic development and societal welfare.
The company positions IndraMind as a step towards strengthening Europe's capabilities in artificial intelligence and key technologies, including system interoperability, cloud computing, advanced sensing, and hybrid technological solutions. Indra Group highlights the increasing complexity of operational environments, characterised by asymmetric threats and a growing volume of data, which pose challenges for decision-making. IndraMind is intended to address these issues by enabling faster and more effective decision-making processes across tactical, operational, and strategic levels.
IndraMind features an open-layered, interoperable, and secure architecture that acts as a connective system. Its modular and scalable design allows for the deployment of capabilities suited to different operational needs, making it adaptable to future technological developments. Indra Group Chairman Ángel Escribano stated, “For a number of years Indra Group has been working on developing intelligence and its application to different trailblazing programs and systems in the world of defence. The launch of IndraMind marks the beginning of a new era of intelligence for the automation of critical operations and superiority in multi-domain operations, and it also forms part of the beginning of this new Indra.”
The company notes that situational awareness in modern defence scenarios requires the integration of large volumes of data from various sources. IndraMind is designed to consolidate this data, providing mission-focused insights. The company has been involved in European cyberdefence projects such as ECYSAP EYE, EU-GUARDIAN, and ECYSAP, which assess cyberattack risks in real time, estimating their potential impact. IndraMind is also integrated into mission and 360-degree vision systems for next-generation armoured vehicles, using artificial intelligence to detect patterns, behaviours, and threats.
IndraMind’s ability to identify and classify threats in real time supports the development of electronic warfare systems and military and civilian radar technologies with improved accuracy and adaptability. It also enhances command and control systems and contributes to the development of multi-domain combat cloud capabilities. Indra Group coordinates the European Command and Control System (EC2) and serves as the national industrial coordinator for the Future Combat Air System (FCAS).
The system is also designed to enhance automation in operational processes, including optronics and onboard radars used in land, air, naval, counter-drone (C-UAS), and border surveillance platforms. It can be applied to wargaming and operational research in synthetic environments, an area supported by Indra’s Center of Excellence in Development, Concepts, Experimentation, and Operational Analysis, which focuses on mission planning and the study of complex military scenarios.
In the space sector, IndraMind contributes to the performance of Indra’s in-orbit object detection radar, one of the company’s most advanced systems. It also has applications in civil operations, including the digitalisation of security-critical systems. Indra Group has deployed IndraMind in an intelligent air traffic management platform hosted in the public cloud, which includes the world’s largest aeronautical database.
Indra Group acknowledges the implications of using this type of technology in defence, security, and critical systems. It applies governance processes to ensure the security, integrity, and quality of structured and unstructured data from real or highly accurate synthetic sources. The company also manages the development and experimentation of its algorithms to comply with regulatory requirements and ensure traceability in terms of explainability, ethics, and accountability.
