The Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD) has signed a contract with Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, to equip 12 CH-53K "Pere" helicopters with mission-specific systems required by the Israeli Air Force (IAF). The agreement, valued at several hundred million dollars, was finalised by the IMOD Mission to the United States in New York City.
The helicopters are currently being assembled at Sikorsky’s facility in Stratford, Connecticut, as part of a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract signed between the IMOD and the U.S. Government several years ago. Once completed, the new aircraft will replace the IAF's ageing "Yas'ur" helicopters.
Under the latest contract, Sikorsky will establish a dedicated production line to modify each helicopter from its standard U.S. Marine Corps configuration to meet the IAF’s operational requirements. This process will include the integration of avionics, navigation systems, and electronic warfare suites provided by the IMOD.
