Kinéis to Launch IoT Satellite Constellation in Asia-Pacific

Our Bureau - : Sep 5, 2024 - : 9:32 pm

Kinéis, a satellite operator focused on the Internet of Things (IoT), is set to launch its first satellite constellation dedicated to IoT to improve connectivity and technology in the Asia-Pacific region. Kinéis, a spin-off of the French Space Agency (CNES) and CLS, has been involved in data collection for 40 years and secured €100 million in funding.

Before launching its own constellation, the company had already been operational, providing IoT services. The new constellation, consisting of 25 nano-satellites, is expected to offer enhanced technology, near real-time capabilities, and low power usage. The launches will be managed by Rocket Lab from Mahia, New Zealand.

Kinéis has been expanding its presence in South-East Asia, contributing to improved monitoring across various logistics sectors, such as sea, air, and road freight, as well as agriculture. To meet the growing demand for IoT applications in the region, the company opened a representative office in Singapore in August 2022. In August 2023, it established its subsidiary, Kinéis Asia Pte. Ltd., to further strengthen its regional presence.

Additionally, Taiwan-based Globalsat, a key manufacturing partner, has incorporated Kinéis’ satellite protocol into a hybrid device that supports NB-IoT/LTE-M and satellite connectivity. Several IoT integrators and partners have worked together to enhance the device’s functionalities, making it applicable for sectors like logistics and semi-wildlife monitoring.
