Korean Air unveils new eco-friendly uniforms for maintenance, aerospace, cargo, and ground handling employees, to be rolled out from April 1.
These new uniforms prioritize safety and functionality, featuring specialized fabrics to reduce electrical accident risks and offering added protection with knee pad inserts. Summer variants include breathable mesh patches and reflective tape for visibility. The range includes t-shirts, vests, windbreakers, and heavy jackets, tailored for different tasks and weather conditions.
Materials used in the uniforms are environmentally certified, such as winter jackets crafted from Sympatex textile, known for thermal insulation and eco-friendliness. These materials hold Bluesign and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifications, ensuring compliance with European environmental standards. The eco-friendly fabric is recyclable or naturally decomposable.
This uniform update marks the first major overhaul in 38 years, reflecting Korean Air’s commitment to modernization. Employee feedback drove practical design improvements, including functional elements like pockets. Trials were conducted at the airline’s facilities in Seoul, the Busan Tech Center, and Incheon Hangar from March 26.
This initiative follows the successful implementation of safety footwear upgrades in May 2023, enhancing safety standards across airport facilities, hangars, and cargo terminals, and giving staff a choice of safety shoes after trial fittings.
