LCR Embedded Systems has introduced the DK3HS-4, a four-slot VPX development platform designed to support 100Gb data rates (25Gb per lane). The system, intended for test and integration purposes, is now available for order.
The DK3HS-4 features a benchtop open-frame design and is smaller and lighter than previous DK3 models while maintaining cost efficiency. It is designed for use with 3U VPX, OpenVPX, and SOSA-aligned plug-in cards, particularly in applications requiring high-performance electronic warfare (EW), radio frequency (RF), signals intelligence (SIGINT), and radar systems.
The system includes a backplane that supports 100GBASE-KR4 and PCIe Gen 4/Gen 5 protocols, aligning with open standards under the US Department of Defense’s MOSA initiative. The chassis, weighing 16 lbs, is equipped with a standard four-slot power and ground backplane and allows for the integration of custom backplanes. It provides easy access for Meritec cabling to facilitate system integration.
Two of the system’s four slots are fully populated, while the remaining two have VITA 67 full-width apertures that accommodate a range of connectors. These apertures support the installation of VITA 66 and 67 connectors, enabling optical and RF connectivity. The DK3HS-4 also features a four-slot rear transition area for additional input/output options. Its configurable slots can be adapted for either conduction-cooled VITA 48.2 or air-cooled plug-in cards, with high-speed fans included to cool high-power cards during functional testing.
“With the arrival of 100Gb data rates in VPX systems and the success of our DK3 chassis, LCR remains the trusted partner for customers advancing toward higher-performance development systems. The DK3HS-4 optimizes SWaP, while preserving the key advantages of the DK3 series, including the 25Gb per lane backplane data rate capability. This ensures seamless integration for systems leveraging current SOSA aligned plug-in cards,” said Shan Morgan, President of LCR Embedded.
LCR Embedded Systems, a subsidiary of the Jonathan Group, specialises in designing and manufacturing integrated systems, chassis, and backplanes for the defence and aerospace industries. The company, a member of VITA and the Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) Consortium, has supplied mission-critical systems to US defence programmes for over 35 years. It develops both COTS open standards chassis and custom system designs for VPX, OpenVPX, CMOSS, and SOSA architectures in line with MOSA directives. LCR also provides programme management services throughout the entire purchasing process, from initial design discussions to manufacturing and post-sales support.
